Our Story
Dewey’s Auto Body was founded in 1955 by Dewey Solmes as Dewey’s Motor Sales. After a few early location changes, the shop settled into its current location in 1967 and became a family legacy—passed down from Dewey to his sons, and now into the hands of the third generation.
Over nearly seven decades, Dewey’s has built a reputation for honest, top-tier auto body work. We've embraced new technology, including being the first shop in Barry County to install a curing down-draft paint booth in 1985, and we’ve continued to lead the way with ongoing upgrades in paint, repair equipment, and technician training.
Today, Dewey’s Auto Body is a full-service collision repair facility offering auto body repair, painting, detailing, glass replacement, and retail parts sales. We remain committed to providing prompt, courteous, and professional service—just like Dewey intended back in 1955.

Dewey’s Auto Body is led by President David Solmes, a third-generation collision repair expert.
David Solmes brings unmatched experience to the shop floor and the front office. As an I-CAR Platinum Individual, Instructor, and multi-year regional award winner, he leads the team with a focus on precision, safety, and service. His leadership extends far beyond the shop to being deeply involved in community service through organizations like the YMCA, Rotary Club, and Barry Community Foundation.
